Our Focus

The province of British Columbia has published research that shows a substantial number of seniors, the majority of whom are women, are now struggling to make ends meet. As long as they carry an overburden of unpaid care giving, and as long as pay equity in Canada remains elusive, women will continue to be unfairly penalized in old age in a system emphasizing private accounts based on earnings as a preferred source of retirement income.

Women Elders in Action (WE*ACT) believe nothing will improve the condition for low-income seniors in the long term without a federal review and resulting action on public pensions and policy intervention by the province.
